About
The No Corporate Democrats PAC seeks to build and sustain a majority in the NM State Legislature of elected officials who are there to work for all of us, not just wealthy, corporate donors.
By supporting champion candidates who align with our communities’ values, No Corporate Democrats is a homegrown movement, rooted in New Mexican values of fairness and looking out for one another.
We do this by engaging in elections – telling the truth about corporate candidates (and where they get their money), and electing candidates who commit to bold leadership and policy making.
Our History
Ahead of the 2020 elections an alliance of community groups came together to break what had been a century-old iron grip on power held by a conservative coalition from both parties in the State Senate.
The PAC formed to unseat five corporate-backed incumbent State Senators who had managed to either block, or water down, major pieces of legislation that aimed to improve the lives of New Mexico’s working families.
By their obstruction, that Corporate Democrat coalition had repeatedly undermined the efforts of House Democrats and the Governor to expand early childhood funding, increase the minimum wage, expand the working families tax credit, and make the wealthiest New Mexicans pay their fair share of taxes.
That year saw the defeat of four of those corporate Democrats – and forced the retirement of a fifth. In an unprecedented Democratic primary, four entrenched committee chairs and even the President Pro Tempore of Senate lost their power and their seats at the hands of activated Democratic voters.
Now the PAC continues to educate voters about the corporate influence in New Mexico politics, the votes their elected officials take against the interests of hardworking New Mexicans, and to recruit, train, and mobilize for candidates who will champion real solutions for a better life for all in our state.
